ABSTRACT

Türkî-i Basît is considered as the literary movement represented by Mahremî of Tatavla (1536) and Nazmî of Edirne (1563) in the first half of the 16 centruy. This idea was put forward by Fuat Köprülü for the first time. The followers of this idea considered Türkî-i Basît as Turkicism, nationalism, and a revolt against the use of Arabic and Persion words. Thus, they have both made the concept diffucult and made a mistake by assuming some theories that have not been proved by history. In opposition to the widespread idea, Türkî-i Basît does not bear any features of literary movement. According to our history knowledge there have not been any gatherings around this idea. Also there have not been any records about the meeting of the two mentioned poets. Moreover, Türkî-i Basît lacks followers, which is the main case, attempts to write Türkî-i Basît must be regarded as useless.
