ABSTRACT

The Sulayman Balkhi Family is originally from Kunduz. The genealogy of the Balkhi family is based on Burhan al-Din Kýlýç known as "sovereign", "Sultan of the Özkent" and "Turk Sheikh from Fergana" and who lived in the 11th century. The Sulayman Balkhi family with a crowded convoy formed by the Uzbeks from Balkh, Kunduz and Bedahþan and the Turcomans, came from Afghanistan to Bagdhad through Iran and had settled in Istanbul on the invitation of Sultan Abd al-Aziz in 1861. Sayyid Sulayman Balkhi and his sons Abd al-Qaadir and Burhan al-Din Balkhi are the most important persons of the Balkhi family. In this article, the above-mentioned persons have been introduced according to the new documents in the "Daftar-i Quyûdât" which contains the copies of the official and private letters of this family bearing a historical value.
