There are a lot of words in Turkish which come from assumed verb stems that are related etymologically and semantically. One of these word is yıldız, on which the researches such as Armin Vambery, Besim Atalay, Talat Tekin, V.G. Egorov, E. V. Sevortyan, A. T. Kaydarov and T. Januzakov, have made some evaluations. Especially Şinasi Tekin has stated that there migt be a connection between the word yalın and yıldırım. In addition to the comments of the above researchers, we suggest that the words yıldız, yıldırım, ışık, ışın, alev, yalım, yalın, alaz/yalaz still existing in Turkey-Turkish also come from the same verb root -*ya. We tried to prove our claim by giving examples such as yaruk, yaşuk, yalangu/yalagu, yaltrak/yaldırak, yaktu, alaz/yalaz, yalım, yalman which are mentioned in historic dialects of Turkish and yaşın, yeşin, caşın/cıltız/yıltız/ulduz/yultuz, yaltrım, which exist in contemporary Turkish dialects. All of this derivatives, coming from the words related to each other, mean 'ışık saçmak, parlamak, aydınlatmak' which derived from the root ya-. Furthermore, in our article, considering the components -dır/-dız in the words 'yıldırım' and yıldız, we tried to attract attention to r/z voice equality and considering the above words, we tried to shed light from another aspect on to the relationship of Altaic languages. |
