ABSTRACT

Mesnevis are long written epic stories belonging to the classic Turkish Literature. One of the leading mesnevis is Leyla and Mecnun, various versions of which have been written by certain eminent poets. As a piece of narrative, mesnevis are formed up through certain structural elements like other narrative types. However, mesnevis have some specific features. No matter what literary elements they contain, all narrative works are presented to the reader as complete texts like all other literary types. The most distinguishing feature of a narrative is that it tells a story within this structure. In this study, Fuzuli's Leyla and Mecnun is studied in terms of the following narrative elements: the general structural framework as a narrative, in what way certain basic elements are arranged while telling the story, in short, how Leyla and Mecnun is presented, to the reader.
