Relations of Adolescents With Their Peer Groups-Friends in Ankara and Deviated Behaviors

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the role of adolescents' relations with their peer groups-friends and dates in revealing depression symptoms and having deviated behaviours including suicide. The sampling group consists of 726 final year high school students in Ankara. As a result of the survey study carried out with this group, significant relations are found among the adolescent's trust in his friends, sharing his problems and secrets with them, spending sparetime with them, being a desired child for his parents, reinforcements used by his parents, in-family violence, the idea of not being understood by his parents, showing symptoms of depression, and the idea of suicide. In conclusion, the adolescents having problems in the family have also negative interactions with friends-peer groups and dates and reveal many deviated behaviours including the idea of suicide.
