Profession's Preferences and Thoughts of Teacher Candidates in Relation to Teaching Profession in Turkey and Kazakhstan |

Abstract: This study was carried out between 2001 and 2003 in Çimkent of South Kazakhstan, Turkistan provinces, Ahmet Yesevi International University of Turk-Kazakh and Marmara and Uludað Universities of Turkey. The purpose of this research is to determine preferences and thoughts of teacher candidates in relation to teaching profes sion in Turkey and Kazakhstan. The research sample composed of 448 Kazakh and 726 Tur kish (1174) teacher candidates by using survey method. According to results of this research, professions were pre ferred with respect to their economic and status' levels. Whi le trading, law, engineering and medical science were prefer red in Turkey, law, economy, banking and policemanship were preferred in Kazakhstan. Although teaching profession was not preferred primarily in both countries, Turkish teacher candidates preferred it more primarily than Kazakh teacher candidates did. In conclusion, although teaching profession was more prefer red in Turkey than Kazakhstan, it did not primarily preferred in both countries. It can be said that according to life stan dards of both countries together with other factors are not ac ceptable level in relation to respect and statue of teaching profession because of its economic income.
